Punctuation mark is an important element that has to pay attention in writing paragraph. Because, it determines toward the extent to which the writing can give meaning clearly to the readers. But many students and writers specially do not pay attention to the use of punctuation mark itself. Because of the importance of the use of punctuation mark in writing, the use of appropriate method in teaching punctuation mark becomes inevitable. Jigsaw technique is a part of cooperative learning which is regarded as an innovative learning technique. It is used as a technique in teaching punctuation mark at the eighth grade of MTs. Miftahul Ihsan Sumenep.
Based on the description, there are two principal issues that were analyzed in this research: The first, how the implementation of jigsaw technique in teaching punctuation mark in writing paragraph at the eighth grade of MTs. Miftahul Ihsan Sumenep, secondly, the challenge for teacher to implement jigsaw technique in teaching punctuation mark.
This research uses a qualitative approach with kind of descriptive. The data collection procedures are obtained through observations, interviews, and documentations. The informants of this study are headmaster and English teacher. While checking the validity of data is done by involving the participation of observation and triangulation based on the data sources.
The results of this research showed how the teacher implements jigsaw technique in teaching punctuation mark at the eighth grade of MTs. Miftahul Ihsan Sumenep. It showed that students can collaborate and integrate their knowledge and understanding from some sources and experts. Beside that, they can share and interact each other in different views, knowledge, gender, and ethnicity to increase students' social development. This research also showed about the problem which is faced by the teacher in implementing jigsaw technique such as the lack of teacher’s feedback toward students that can open opportunity for the students to happen conflict. The other problem is the difficulty of the teacher in facing students who feel superior and inferior. The result of this research also showed the effectiveness of jigsaw technique in teaching punctuation mark.
Based on the above results, it is suggested to all elements that brings the educational system including learning system that used by the teacher toward students to improve instructional technique, especially in jigsaw technique as a kind of cooperative learning. Besides, punctuation mark teaching also has to pay attention by the teacher remembering it is important element in writing.
