A Study of Students’ Intrinsic Motivation to Speak in Weekly Meeting Program of Basic Training Class at Course Dubaja Ibos Darul Ulum II Bujur Tengah, Pamekasan

Based on the phenomenon that occur in Dubaja Ibos Darul Ulum II, many Dubaja
Ibos students need motivation in learning, especially in instinsic motivation. Motivation is
really needed by student in learning or improving their speaking skill. Intrinsic motivation is
very important or suitable for students who learn or increase speaking skill. In Dubaja Darul
Ulum II Islamic Boarding School requires students to speak English well and fluently. In this
case Dubaja Ibos Darul Ulum II Provides motivation and encourages students motivation
with English Courses every meeting. Students who learn English speaking skills need
intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation is the internal motivation of individuals to do
something based on their will.
The researcher formulates two questions (1) what is the intrinsic motivation of the
students to speak in the basic training class weekly meeting program at the Dubaja Ibos Darul
Ulum II course in Bujur Tengah Pamekasan? (2) What are the factors influencing the intrinsic
motivation of students talking about the basic training class weekly meeting program at the
Dubaja Ibos Darul Ulum II course in Bujur Tengah Pamekasan?
This study used descriptive qualitative research with three data collection techniques:
observation, interviews and documentation. Then, the researcher grouped the data based on
the focus of the research. After that, the research continued to examine the data to obtain
valid data.
For the results of this study, the researcher found student’s intrinsic motivation to
speak in weekly program, the student choose themselves to join speaking weekly program.
The students have personal desire to know or see one’s abilities, in order to measure the
student abilities in speaking program. For the factors that influence student’s motivation, the
researcher found 4 factors that influence the student’s intrinsic motivation. The factors are
that their self esteem and achievement, future aspiration and hope, progress desire, and
interest.
It is suggested that the teacher should pay more attention to the student intrinsic
motivation to encourage the students to be more active in joining speaking weekly program.
The students need to find their own motif why they should join the speaking in weekly
program.
