An Analysis Of Grammatical Errors On Students Oral Question In Toefl Class Of In The 2022 – 2023 Academic Year

Grammatical error is a term that is commonly used when there is a wrong
pattern or grammatical usage in one sentence and it is used in a grammar. Simply
put, when you write a sentence in English but there is an incorrect word
placement or verb form.
The purpose of this study is to find out the types of grammatical errors
from oral performances speaking especially the oral questions students make in
class, the factors that cause grammatical errors and the difficulties faced by
students. majoring in English in speaking especially in oral questions. Data
collected through observation and documentation.
In this study using a qualitative approach and the type is descriptive.
Which results from the description in this thesis are obtained through data that
researchers get from observations and documentation during teaching and
learning activities in the classroom.
The results of this study were several students majoring in English at the
Tarbiyah Faculty of the Madura State Islamic Religion Institute (IAIN). The
results of this study show that students make four types of grammar errors who
there were six students namely Ach. Bukhori, Ani huril maula, Mawaddatir
rofiqoh, R.A Agwina krisantika novianti, Ramadhani kartika, Magfiroh, which are
classified into omission, misformation, misorder and overgeneralization. Errors in
omission, students mostly reduce the use of verbs, subjects, objects, prepositions,
plural nouns, articles, conjunctions, superlative forms, passive verbs, and tobe. In
this type of misformation, students make mistakes in the form of verbs, nouns,
articles, personal pronouns as objects, and the choice of words. For this type of
misordering, errors occur in the placement of verbs, adjectives, nouns and modals.
Finally, the students in overgenaralization made mistakes on adverbs, objects,
articles, prepositions and tobe. Furthermore, Meanwhile, students' understanding
of grammar and choice of vocabulary is indicated as the problems faced by
students in speaking/oral questions.
