The Implementation of Skimming Technique in Reading Descriptive Text at the 10th Grade SMAN 1 Pakong-Pamekasan

Reading is the interaction between a reader and the text. It means that during
the process, presumably many things are happening in the reader’s brain. The
reader is not only looking at the words or print in the text but also deciphering in
some sense the marks on the page, deciding what they mean and how they are
related to each other. In this case the reader can develop their reading skill in
order to be able to read the materials written in English efficiently, that is by
utilizing appropriate techniques and strategies for getting good understanding.
Through reading activities the students will get a lot of information from different
English texts.
Based on this, there are two main problems that are the main study in this
study, namely: firstly how does the teacher use skimming technique in teaching
reading descriptive text at the 10th Grade SMAN 1 Pakong-Pamekasan, secondly
how are the students’ responses in teaching reading descriptive text at the 10th
Grade SMAN 1 Pakong-Pamekasan. The researcher have been interviewing ten
students namely Ridho Fahri Andhika, Rafi Ahmad, Moh. Hafikur Rosi, M.
Taufik Hidayat, Moh. Ali Fikhri, Fina Safitri, Intan Indriani Nur safitri, Farda
Dina Mauly, Nafrihatul Mahludah, Klaudia Sintia Bella.
The researcher uses qualitative approach with analysis as its kind of research.
The primary source used is analysis the students to find out the data needed.
While the secondary source, it refers to books and journals that deals with the
implementation of skimming technique in reading descriptive text. To collect the
data, the researcher uses interview and documentation.
The results of this study indicate that, teacher used skimming technique in
teaching reading descriptive text as follows: first, give text to students and ask
students to determine the title. The second, instruct students to read the beginning
of each paragraph. The third, read at the beginning and at the paragraph to
determine or conclude from the contents of the text. Then, students’ responses in
reading descriptive text by used skimming technique is as good because the
lessons are relaxed, and it’s also not too difficult if you give lessons or
assignment, just normal, and too relaxed.
