An Analysis of Dominant English Pronunciation Style on Students At Ma’had Sabilillah Sampang

Pronunciation consists of two fields, namely phonetics and phonology. Pronunciation
refers to the production of sounds that we use to make meaning. Pronunciation is an essential
aspect of learning to speak a foreign language
This study discussed the dominant pronunciation style used by student of Ma’had
Sabilillah Sampang. Based on research focus there are two objectives in this study. The first
objective is to explore the pronunciation style often used by students. The second is to
investigate students’ perception of the used of pronunciation style.
The researcher used qualitative approach in this research. The data was descriptive
because researcher has to know what the perception and what pronunciation style often used,
based on reality for learning process in Ma’had Sabilillah Sampang. This method and data
analysis in this study used participant observation, documentation, and structured interview
methods. All three of which aim to find out and analyze the situation in Ma'had Sabilillah
Sampang. while the analysis of the data used is in the form of identification, classification, data
analysis and also drawing conclusions.
The result of this study found that students’ perception was more dominant or uses the
American style more often. because American style is easier and often used by students. Also,
American style is simpler when spoken by students. This is also a major concern in the teaching
and learning process, when teachers used American more often to make it easier to understand
then indirectly students also follow the style of language used for greater interaction. So,
Ma'had Sabilillah Sampang students predominantly use American style based on several
circumstances which include the frequent use of American style by teachers and students also
understand American style more easily than British, which basically also affects students'
interests and habits in pronunciation. language.
