English has also become very important for people to exchange meanings
and to represent their feelings and ideas. Learning a foreign language is different
from learning the mother tongue. Students still have to translate their mother
tongue into a foreign language, namely English. The students still have not
mastered translation and they still have difficulty translating from Indonesian to
English, especially in the hortatory exposition text. Hortatory exposition text is an
exposition text that contains the author's opinion on an issue accompanied by
supporting arguments. This text is persuasive and aims to influence the reader to
agree with the views written. In this study, researchers found problems in
translating hortatory texts from Indonesian to English at students in Eleventh
Grade, especially in Senior High School Darut Tauhid Al-Maliky. This research
was conducted using descriptive qualitative method. Collecting data in this study
by observation and interviews. In this study the researchers also included the
population. The population is the total number of units consisting of subjects and
objects that have characteristics to be studied. Defined as all members of any well
defined class of people, objects, or events. While sampling is part of the
population whose characteristics are to be studied. Sampling is a portion of the
population that is considered to be representative of that population researched.
To take a sample of the research, the researcher uses a technique called a
purposive sampling. purposive sampling is a technique to get the data from the
object that really has a big information that related with the research to make the
researcher easier in getting the data. Population In this study, students of class XI
SMA Darut Tauhid AL-Maliky Sampang. And the sampling is the eleventh grade.
In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research. With
descriptive qualitative research, the researcher has described the students' errors in
the translation of the hortatory exposition text and then the researcher identifies
and classifies the problems of the students. There are 2 problems, namely student
errors in translating hortatory exposition texts and solutions to overcome these
problems. After my research, the researcher found answers to the existing
problems. The first is about student errors. From the students' mistakes, the
researchers found that the students' mistakes were in the way of translating, the
students did not understand in translating texts, especially hortatory texts. The
students' mistakes on the point, namely, their lack of vocabulary also lacked
understanding in determining grammar and classifying texts such as omission,
addition, misinformation and misordering. The next result is that the solution to
solving the problem is to tell students the right way to translate a text, by first
reviewing it after being given the text and then starting to translate for sure with
the correct vocabulary by looking in the dictionary or asking friends or teachers
and pay attention to grammar to be correct. And finally, by reviewing or recorrecting the translated text by rereading the translated text or giving it to more
capable people such as teachers, to be corrected. And also the researcher gives a
vi
few tricks and tips for good translation, and also fosters students' interest in not
only using their mother tongue, but also using a foreign language which is an
international language in the world.
