Songs can be used as a means to convey messages from their creators as
well as describe life and the environment through the perspective of the words
contained in the lyrics. Songs in the lyrics are often found pronouns. Self-pronouns
are pronouns that replace names, both animate and inanimate. This study was
conducted to determine the description of the use of pronouns in song lyrics. How
pronouns, especially in song lyrics, are used by songwriters to express and describe
the world and its environment.
This research is a quantitative causality study that uses descriptive analytic
method, which is preceded by a literature study followed by a population
determination, namely song lyrics created by western songwriters.
Data collection is done by taking the best selected song lyrics. Then
observed the lyrics and recorded and analyzed to find pronouns that exist in the
lyrics of the song. The pronouns are then grouped and analyzed.
The results showed that in the song, my first pronoun, I often encountered
because the prominence of the actor was related to the identification of the singer's
self-identity and the environment close to the singer. Pronouns can be further
divided into first-person pronouns, second-person pronouns, and third-person
pronouns. There are also pronouns that replace the first and second self. In
addition, words that express family relationships are often used as self-pronouns.
