Student's Perception on Using YouTube as Media in Listening Learning at Eleventh Class of MA Thariqat Shufiyah Palengaan Pamekasan

Listening is known as one of the four basic skills of English which is very
important to be mastered by student. The use of media determines the success of
teaching and learning process. Nowdays, many learning media are used in
listening learning, especially using YouTube media. YouTube is a media that
allows users to view a video while listening. In this case, the researcher wants to
know the students' perception on using YouTube as media in listening learning.
This research has two research objectives; 1) to explain the student's perceptions
in using YouTube as media in listening learning at eleventh class of MA Thariqat
Shufiyah Palengaan Pamekasan, 2) to describe the advantages of using YouTube
as media in listening learning at eleventh class of MA Thariqat Shufiyah
Palengaan Pamekasan, 3) to describe the disadvantages of using YouTube as
media in listening learning at the eleventh class of MA Tariqat Shufiyah Palengaan
Pamekasan.
The researcher uses a qualitative approach where descriptive is the type of
this research. Researchers obtained data from documentation and direct
interviews. The research informant of this study at eleventh class of MA Thariqat
Shufiyah Palengaan Pamekasan.
The result reveals that the student's gave positive and negative perceptions
of the use of YouTube as media in listening learning. In another side, there are
some advantages and disadvantages of YouTube in listening learning. The
advantages of YouTube is delivering the learning materials with videos,
interesting and give motivation students to take part in learning, impact to
listening skills, give a new knowledge and information in learning. In the opposite
way, which showed the disadvantages of YouTube as media is that it interferes
with lessons because of the bad internet network, and also because of
advertisements that often appear during class time. In conclusion, the use of
Youtube as a media in listening learning have the advantages and the
disadvantages, it also related with the students perception. The students perception
also have a positive and negative perception.
