Code Switching and Code Mixing (EnglishIndonesian) Used By Students in Communication at the Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School

Keyword: Code Switching, Code Mixing.
Code switching and code mixing occur in the communication process. Most
people use two or more languages in everyday life, it happens because of a
phenomenon that is a trend or style of speaking in society. This style is also
studied in sociolinguistic learning.
Therefore, the main objectives in this study are (1) to analyze what types of
code switching and code mixing do the students use in communication at the
Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School (2) what the factors cause code
switching and code mixing do the students in communication at the Puteri
Khadijah Islamic Boarding School. The purpose of this study is to describe the
types of code switching and code mixing do the students use in communication at
the Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School and to find out the causes of code
switching and code mixing do the students in communication at the Puteri
Khadijah Islamic Boarding School.
In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative research design to
answer the problem. The subjects of this study were students at the Puteri
Khadijah Islamic Boarding School. The results of this study are the types of code
switching and code mixing used by students at the Puteri Khadijah Islamic
Boarding School. Here the researcher found 16 utterances code switching. There
are 3 utterances types of intra-sentential switching in 6 conversations, the second
type of inter-sentential switching is 10 utterances in 6 conversations, third type of
tag-switching is 3 utterances in 6 conversations. While code mixing researchers
found 18 utterances in 6 conversations. Covering the type of intra-sentential code
mixing there are 10 utterances in 6 conversations, the second intra-lexical code
mixing there are 6 utterances in 6 conversations, third involving change in
pronunciation there is 2 utterances in 6 conversations, and also the researchers
found the factors that affect the students of the Puteri Khadijah Islamic boarding
school using two languages. While the found factors the study, researcher only
found 5 factors, the most widely used are used by the Puteri Khadijah Islamic
boarding school students are being empathetic about something and repetition
used for clarification.
