The Effort of Teacher on Teaching Listening Skill by Using English Song at Eighth Grade Students in MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lenteng Timur Sumenep

Listening is to hear directly or indirectly about something, and by listening
we can express ideas or feelings. Because listening is one of the habits of
understanding in the form of listening whether it’s a conversation or a song.
There are three problems in this research. The first, what are the teacher’s
effort on teaching listening skill by using English song at eighth grade students in
MTs. Mifahul Ulum Lenteng Timur Sumenep. The second, what are teacher’s
obstacles in effort of teacher on teaching listening skill by using English song at
grade students in MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lenteng Timur Sumenep. The third, how
is the teacher’s effort in overcoming obstacles when teaching listening skill by
using English song at eighth grade students in MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lenteng
Timur Sumenep.
In this research the researcher uses a qualitative approach. In collecting
data, data researcher used observation, namely direct research in the classroom,
interviews with teachers, students, and making documentation by taking pictures
of teaching and learning activities.
Based on observation and interviews with teacher and some of students,
the findings of the researcher conducted by teacher’s effort to teach listening
skill to eighth grade students of MTs. Miftahul Ulum Lenteng Timur Sumenep.
The effort of teacher’s on teaching listening skill by using English song
and tape recorder as the media in teaching and learning process.
The teacher’s effort to explain the material about English song as media to
learning listening skill a) The teacher’s effort prepares a lesson plan (RPP), the
teacher takes a long time to provide understanding in listening to the contents of
the use of English song. But the teacher overcomes obstacles during the use of
English song in teaching listening skill. a) the teacher plays back the song three
times b) the teacher uses a tape recorder as a loudspeaker from the English song,
so that it can distract students’ hearing. c) The teacher’s effort to order the
students to come to in front of the class The teachers’ obstacles when teaching
listening skill by using English song: a)The teacher’s takes a long time to give
an understand of the lyrics of the song. b) The teacher faced students were lack
of attention c) The last obstacle in that school still lack facilities such as
language laboratory. The teacher’s effort in overcoming obstacles when teaching
listening skills by using english song at eighth grade : a) The teachers’ efforts to

use a tape recorder in playing an English song in class b) Repeat three times to
playing English song c) The teacher plays some English song to the students
That the teacher’s effort in teaching listening skill using English song were
successful and made active and quickly understood the contents of the song,
besides that the researcher also concluded from the obstacles faced by teachers in
trying to teach listening skill using English song, the teacher found students who
pay less attention, the teacher takes a long time to provide an understanding of
listening to the song. From the explanation above the teacher overcomes
obstacles such as; the teacher asks students to fill in the blank lyrics, the teacher
repeats the English song and controls the students to stay focused on the sound of
the English song
