The Implementation of Weekly Memorizing Obligation of Vocabulary Mastery in the Speaking Activities at Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School

Vocabulary is one of component in learning English. It is very important to
know before learning four skills in learning English. Vocabulary mastery can be
interpreted as someone who can use vocabulary based on the use of the word itself
and knows the grammatical structure of words as a second language well. In this
case, to increase vocabulary mastery, students implement the weekly memorizing
obligation of vocabulary mastery in the speaking activities, they can implement
the vocabulary in the daily speaking activities with their friends. It is one of the
obligation programs at Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School, where it is only
required for the first and second semester students.
There are two research focuses in this study, the process of the
implementation of weekly memorizing obligation of vocabulary mastery in the
speaking activities at Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding School (first and second
semester), and the obstacle factors of the implementation of weekly memorizing
obligation of vocabulary mastery in the speaking activities at Puteri Khadijah
Islamic Boarding School (first and second semester) and how to solve them. In
this study, the researcher used a qualitative as an approach and descriptive as kind
of the research. Researchers used three instruments in collecting data; observation,
interview, and documentation. To analyze the data, the researcher used data
reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Then, the researcher
used triangulation method in checking the validity of the data.
The results of this research found by the researcher is that the students of
Puteri Khadijah Islamic boarding school especially first and second semester
students have different processes in the implementation of weekly memorizing
obligation of vocabulary mastery in the speaking activities at Puteri Khadijah
Islamic Boarding School. The first one is by reading vocabulary, the second one is
by writing vocabulary, the third one is by listening vocabulary and the last is by
speaking vocabulary. Then there are also several obstacle factors that faced by
them in these activities, namely; they have low speaking ability, pronunciation
and writing which different, laziness, and because they are not used to these
activities. There are several ways to overcome these obstacle factors, namely;
make small notes, create a supportive and comfortable environment, not be lazy,
get used to using English in their daily activities. Based on the results of the
research above, the implementation of weekly memorizing obligation of
vocabulary mastery in the speaking activities at Puteri Khadijah Islamic Boarding
School is very important to be applied, because it can increase vocabulary and
also improve their speaking skills of the students at Puteri Khadijah Islamic
boarding school both new students and old students there. they will get a lot of
new vocabulary and become fluent in speaking, of course, with the
implementation of these activities, their speaking skills will be better
