The Use of Poster As Instructional Visual Media In Teaching Speaking For 10th Graders At Madrasah Aliyah Al-Jawahir Kedungdung Sampang

Poster is media that can be used as tools or alternative materials in the
classroom to encourage students' interest in understanding learning. Posters are
used as visual media in learning English, especially in teaching speaking.
Teaching speaking is an important part of any language education class. not only
spoken language but also offers the ability to learn as the main communicative
medium in the classroom and is an important component of learning outcomes.
This research has two research focuses. The first is to describe how the use
of posters as a visual medium of learning in teaching speaking for 10th graders at
Madrasah Aliyah Al-Jawahir Kedungdung Sampang. And the second is to find out
what are the benefits of posters as a visual medium of learning in learning to
speak for 10th graders at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Jawahir Kedungdung Sampang.
In this research, researchers used a qualitative approach. Researchers used
three instruments in collecting data; observation, interview, and documentation.
To analyze the data, the researcher used data condensation, data presentation, and
conclusion verification. Then the researcher used triangulation of data sources in
checking the validity of the data.
The result of this research is that the use of poster as instructional visual
media in teaching speaking is quite easy, because the teacher only prepares,
selects and pastes posters in the classroom. The teacher involves the poster in
learning and connects the poster with the material presented, then the teacher
gives an example of the material that has been conveyed by using the poster as a
reference or illustration. after that the teacher gives assignments to students about
the material and examples that have been conveyed by the teacher and the teacher
asks students to speak to explain the results of student assignments in front of the
class. Besides, With the poster as instructional visual media, it creates advantages
for teachers and students, namely it can help teachers in the learning process,
especially in teaching speaking because students are more active in speaking and
make the class more effective and can improve students' speaking because posters
are a reference or description in practice speaking students and students can
increase vocabulary through posters. posters not only improve students' speaking
but make their classes more colorful and students more happy and interested in
learning. In addition, posters provide motivation and rules to students because
posters contain meaning and rules both from the words and images contained in
the poster.
