SHERLOCK HOLMES MOVIES ; AN ANALYSIS OF "DIRTY" WORDS TYPES AND USAGE

English is widely used on the world side. Generally, to be a good speaker,
people think that they only have to master grammar, and other elements well
besides people should give attention to the way they communicate with society,
either it is good word or bad word. While the usage of “Dirty” words nowadays
is mostly used by people especially young generation. It may be caused by the
existence of media now that can influence people’s behavior, included movie.
“Dirty” word is an expression which considered as misappropriation thing to be
uttered among the society, although sometimes there are some people who
regard that it is a usual thing. “Dirty” words can be found in the movie, included
Sherlock Holmes movie. This research focuses on knowing the “Dirty” words
which are used on Sherlock Holmes movie season 1 episode 1 and 2. Then
classify them to the types of “Dirty” words and knowing the usage of “Dirty”
words on that movie.
This research is used descriptive qualitative approach. To collect the data,
the researcher will observe it by watching the movie, finding “Dirty” words to
be analyzed using Jay’s theory or even Geoffrey’s theory, captured the scene as
the documentation, checking the data validity using triangulation.
The result of this research shows that the researcher found 15 kinds of
“Dirty” words on Sherlock Holmes movie season 1 episode 1 during 01:28:06
and 5 “Dirty” words on the season 1 episode 2 during 01:28:37. The data found
classified to 6 types of “Dirty” word. They are Cursing like Damn, Profanity like
For God’s Sake, Epithets like Stupid, Slang like Under Your Nose, Vulgarity
like Deodorant, Insult and Slurs like Bastard. And it used in some condition
such as anger, disappointed, irked or annoyed, happy, regret and for joking. That
indicates that there are several “Dirty” words used on Sherlock Holmes movies.
After this research conducted, may readers and further researcher can get
benefits from this research dealing with “Dirty” words or some references in it
