Vocabulary is one of important thing in English to be mastered. Learners
or student who wants to master English, she or her has to have vocabulary at least
a few vocabularies. The better the students’ vocabulary mastery the better their
English ability is. One of English ability that will be better with vocabulary
mastery is the students’ reading comprehension especially on narrative text.
This thesis is to correlate between students’ vocabulary mastery and their
ability at reading narrative text. All English learners and English students have to
master the vocabulary, even the Students University. For Students University,
vocabulary is a little thing that cannot be separate from them. When they do not
have much vocabulary, they will look not confident. Then, the researcher is
interested to conduct a research about correlation between students’ vocabulary
mastery and reading comprehension on Narrative text.
The researcher uses Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) in which hypothesis states
that there is correlation between the students’ vocabulary mastery and reading
comprehension on narrative text at second grade of IPS students of MAN
Pamekasan.
This research uses quantitative approach to explain the both variables. The
researcher uses non-experimental research design, namely correlation design
because the researcher wants to know the correlation between students’
vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension on Narrative text. The instrument
that used by the researcher is test for both variables. To analyze the data, the
researcher uses “r” product moment.
The result shows that there is correlation between Students’ Vocabulary
Mastery and reading comprehension on narrative text at second grade of IPS
students of MAN Pamkasan. It is proved by the data analysis that the value of rxy
(0,657) is higher than rt (r table) in both significant levels of 1% (0,354) and 5%
(0, 273). It means that the alternative hypothesis of this research is accepted. All
in all, the students’ vocabulary mastery give influence for students’ reading
comprehension on narrative text.
