THE ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE STYLE ON STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL IN THE ELEVENTH GRADE AT SMAN 2 PAMEKASAN BASED ON MARTIN JOOS PERSPECTIVE

Speaking skill is the productive skill in oral mode. The goal of this skill is that the students are able to polite and speak correctly also fluently in English language. Speaking means to converse or expressing one’s thoughts and feelings in spoken language. The skills will gives the ability to communicate effectively especially on students’ speaking skill in the eleventh grade at SMAN 2 Pamekasan. There are two research focuses of this research. The first, kinds of language style on students’ speaking skill in the eleventh grade at SMAN 2 Pamekasan based on the Martin Joos Perspective and the second is factors that influence of language style on students’ speaking skill in the eleventh grade at SMAN 2 Pamekasan. The researcher used a qualitative approach with descriptive as a kind of research. The researcher obtained the data from observation, interview and documentation. Then, checked and analyzed the result of language style on students’ speaking skill in the eleventh grade at SMAN 2 Pamekasan based on Martin Joos Perspective by qualitative analysis: data reduction, data display and verification. The result of this study, there are three language style that used by the students based on Martin Joos Perspective; formal style and casual style in the classroom but most of them prefer used formal style when their speak in the classroom. There are twenty-one findings of speech on the students’ speaking skill. Out of the classroom, the students used intimate style. Then, the researcher analyzed the factors that influence of language style on students’ speaking skill are setting, topic, and participant but most of them prefer that participant is more influence of their language style. The students used that language style for some reasons. They will using their words according to themeselves. The suggestion for the students must do more polite of using English to speak. The students must choose the good words in speaking, especially in daily activity in the school. The word in English do not only have one meaning. So, choosing a polite word that must be careful and more directed to other better words in the classroom or outside the class. For the teacher, must pay more attention to what students saying. So, they can speak with better.
