Discovery learning is a learning approach that can make involved students actively through their learning lives, can improve critical thinking skills through class activities, Teachers who use this learning model can help students’ independence and critical thinking skills. here There are two focuses of the research that the researchers conducted in this study. The first is how English teachers implements the discovery learning approach at MTs Al. Djufri Aeng Penay Blumbungan Pamekasan, and the second is what critical thinking skills are developed by the discovery learning approach in English learning.
This study uses a qualitative approach.Andthe type of research used by researchers is descriptive qualitative. In collecting data, researchers used three techniques, namely observation, interview and documentation technique and data analysis. The informants are English teacher at MTs. Al-djufriAengPenayBlumbunganPamekasan and students of MTs. Al-djufriAengPenayBlumbunganPamekasan.
Based on the results of research, English teachershave implemented a discovery learning approach with six phases including stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, generalizations (draw conclusion), then critical thinking skills developed in the discovery discovery learning approach are deductive thinking, inductive thinking, and evaluative thinking.
Based on the results above, it is recommended for English teachers tofinalize the learning preparation both facilities needed and more creative in engineering problem faced to students in order to motivate them to be more enthusiastic and skeptical in the learning process.
