This thesis describeVerb Tense Inconsistency on S1 Thesis at English Teaching Learning Program (TBI) 2017-2018 IAIN Madura. The students make the writing in the process of learning has error in determining the verb tense in a sentence and also the students still confused in determining it. On the other hand verb tense has important role in a sentence because to make sentence the students must know about the part of speech and phrasal category. One of the phrasal category is verb tense which has significant role in making sentence, because sentence cannot separate from verb tense. Therefore in writing text, especially in making thesis the students must know about the sentence so that why the writer interest in studying about the verb tense error
There are two research problems in this study. The first,what kind of verb tense inconsistency are found in S1 thesis at English Teaching Learning Program 2017-2018 IAIN Madura. The second one, what are the causes of verb tense inconsistency on S1 thesis at English Teaching Learning Program 2017-2018 IAIN Madura. The research objective of this study to find out kind of verb tense inconsistency in S1 thesis at English Teaching Learning Program 2017-2018 IAIN Madura. to know the causes of verb tense inconsistency on S1 Thesis at English Teaching Learning Program 2017-2018 IAIN Madura.
In this point, the researcher uses qualitative research. This research uses descriptive research. The researcher choose S1 thesis 2017-2018 at English Teaching Learning Program of IAIN Madura as research setting. Because the problem this research will study some thesis of the students university which there are in IAIN Madura Library. In this research uses observation, documentation and interview to collect data.
The result of this study is kinds of verb tense inconsistency from 13 thesis of English teaching learning program. The kind of verb tense inconsistency was in one paragraph used many tenses, like present, past tense, past participle and future. Beside that in a sentence used two different tenses. The most used verb tense inconsistency was present and past tense in one sentence. From the result of finding of this research, the researcher would like to give suggestion to students university use correct sentence structure in expressing their thesis to be easier understood and better. For the reader this research will be useful for another researcher concerning phenomenon. For the next researcher this research expect to help the researcher analyze the inconsistency verb on thesis, so the result of this research will be useful for other researcher who are interested in investigating other thesis related with the same topic.
