Learning strategy is the way to make easier and faster to accept material which apply in teaching learning process. It means they have planning to make the learning process easy to understand by self-directed.Listening is the process to interpreting information or message of what people say. Listening different from hearing. Listening is hearing that need more focused to take the conclusion after get information untill understanding.Listening is the ability to identify and understand what other are saying. Student’s listening learning strategies are the way or strategy that used by teacher or learners on the teaching learning process at listening class to make it easier and more understandable for the listening’s lesson.
There are two researh focuses in this study the first, what are listening strategies used by students?. The second, how do the studentsuse listening strategies in the Listening 1 class?. The objective of the study is to find out the listening strategies used by students and to find out how students apply their listening strategies in Listening 1class.
In this research the researcher used qualitative descriptive research. To get the data, researcher use procedure of data collection for doing observation, interview, and documentation. Researcher directly came to the phenomenon became non participant in the activities of the class.
The result of this research shows what are the strategies that used by students to improve their listening skill and help them facing on the listening lesson. There are several strategies that used by students, it is listening with reading transcripts and song lyrics and listening film tactically. From the observation and interview, most of the students use note taking strategy and translation to helps them learn listening, to make students more easier to study in the classroom, add new vocabulary, get new knowledge, and interesting when learning listening.The researcher suggest the students to improve their listening skills they should studying and listen more about English to help them knowing more about English and familiar also they can enrich their vocabularies.
