THE CORRELATION BETWEEN ENGLISH EVALUATION SCORE AND STUDENTS CONFIDENCE IN ENGLISH SUBJECT AT THE TENTH GRADE IN SMKN 1 TLAKAN

English evaluation score is an value of the students ability from evaluation that given by the teacher for students to measure students' abilities during teaching and learning process. so that teachers can find out who are the students that can get the lessons with responsiveness and who are students that have a weakness in receiving English materials that have been given by the teacher. The teacher can be said to be a good teacher if the teacher is able to provide an evaluation with good criteria. Student confidence is the students feeling. whether students are confident enough with English subject or feel insecure about their ability to accept English lessons.
This research composses two problem of study. the first is, is there any correlation between english evaluation score and students confidence in English subject at the tenth grade in SMKN 1 Tlanakan? The second is, how significance is the correlation between english evaluation score and students confidence in English subject at the tenth grade in SMKN 1 Tlanakan?. The method that used by researcher is a quantitative method and the technique used by researchers is correlation. In collecting data, this research uses questionnaire instruments for respondents and conducts classroom observations. The sample from this research are 33, researcher uses 25% of the total number of tenth graders. The population at the tenth grade are 130 students. and the sample are X-TSM class students (9 students), X-TKJ class (9 students), X-MM class (7), and X-APHP class (8 students). The researcher used random sampling to get a sample for filling out the questionnaire. In analyzing the questionnaire data assessed from the observation of the likets scale, from a scale of 1 to 5 scale.
The results of this research indicate that there is a negative correlation between english evaluation score and student confidence, this is evidenced by the value of rxy = -0.356 the interpretation in the correlation between english evaluation score and students confidence is weak. The Value of statistical significant is 0, 04 where the value is smaller than 0.05. This is shows that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words there is a wekness significant correlation with a negative correlation direction between english evaluation score and student confidence.
Based on the result above, it is expected to suggest the teachers should stimulate the students by giving the motivation in order to make the students ore confidence when the student face the evaluation.
