THE ANALYSIS ON THE STUDENT’S WRITING ABILITY IN WRITING INTRODUCTION OF ESSAY AT FOURTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT IAIN MADURA

Writing is one of language skills which needs more practice and the most difficult skill in English learning process. An essay is one of type in writing skill. When writing an essay, the students should notice the aspect of writing essay and the structure or the elements of essay. They are organization (the introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion), style, mechanics, and vocabulary use. This research only focus on writing the introduction that in the introduction has two aspect they are general statement and thesis statement and this research has purpose to analyze the student’s writing ability in writing introduction of essay at fourth semester of English Department IAIN Madura.
There are three research focus in this study. The first, How is the student’s writing ability in writing general statement of the introduction of essay at fourth semester of English Department IAIN Madura. The second, How is the student’s writing ability in writing thesis statement of the introduction of essay at fourth semester of English Department IAIN Madura. The third, How is the student’s writing ability in writing introduction of essay at fourth semester of English Department IAIN Madura.
The subject of the research is the students of English Department at IAIN Madura. The researcher took two classes as the subject of this research and both of the classes have same lecturer, they are: the students in A class and the students in B class.
The researcher used qualitative descriptive to present the data. Some of the data are analysis using statistical method but in general the analysis was the qualitative. The technique used for collecting data is collect student’ assignment or document study then the researcher analyze the students writing ability in writing introduction essay by scoring rubric and also used percentage to show the students ability.
The result of this research, the student’s writing ability in writing introduction of essay at fourth semester is good grade. It was because in the first class, the researcher find that 25,92 % students are in fair, 59,25 % students are in good, and 14,81% students are excellent grade and in the second class, the researcher find that 41,6 % students are in fair, 45,83 % students are in good and 12,5 % students are in excellent grade. Therefore, the highest grade of the student’s ability in writing introduction essay was the good grade.
