THE IMPLEMENTATION OF STORY MAPPING STRATEGY IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION AT THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPI AL-IKHWANUL KARIM DASUK SUMENEP

Reading is one of English skills that should be learned by students. Reading aims to understand the writer’s idea or the way the writer communicate their ideas to the reader. Therefore, the students are required to understand the content and the information that mentioned in the text. However, sometimes the students feel that reading is difficult because they are lack of vocabulary and confused to understand the whole text.
There are many strategies which can be used by the teachers in teaching reading. One of them is Story Mapping Strategy. Its help the students to recognize the basic reading framework of the reading to find out their understanding of the text, besides that the story mapping strategy allows students to understand the content and main information of the text easily.
This study aims to find out how the implementation of story mapping strategy in SMPI Al-Ikhwanul Karim Dasuk Sumenep. In this research there are three research problems. The first is how does the teacher implementation of story mapping strategy of SMPI Al-Ikhwanul Karim Dasuk Sumenep. The second is what are the obstacles faced by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension. The third is what are the advantages the implementation of story mapping stategy in teaching reading comprehension.
This research is qualitative research. The subject of this research is the eighth grade students who consist of 20 students. The types of this research used are observation, interview, and documentation.
The result showed that there are three steps on the teaching and learning process where the story mapping strategy is implement at SMPI Al-Ikhwanul Karim Dasuk Sumenep. It is proved by the lesson plan that is used. The student is motivated when the students can participate in the class because the condision in the class is anthuasim.
It can be drown a conclusion that the story mapping strategy is good to be applied in reading activity.
