THE CORRELATION BETWEEN TWO WAYS COMMUNICATION MODEL AND STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION OF C EIGHTH GRADERS AT MTS AL-ULA I SUMBER BATU BLUMBUNGAN PAMEKASAN

Reading is a communication since it connects the author and the reader. It is considered as a complex process which involves of a sequence written symbols that need to be understood to get the meaning of the text. Moreover students who do not pay attention to the importance of reading will not be motivated to read. The other problem faced by students is the teacher way to communicate or the teacher’s way in transferring the material. Sometimes, the teacher ignored students’ attention so the students get nothing from his/her explanation. The teacher communication also has influence to the students’ reading comprehension.In achieving understanding qualified in learning reading, the teacher in a junior high school uses communication that allows students to respond to what the teacher explains exactly in MTS Al-Ula I, the teacher at the eighth grader receives a complaint or confusion or opinian that students feel, this communication is two-way communication model, which there is feedback between the source and receiver.
The phenomenon above inspired the researcher to investigate the correlation between two ways communication model and students’ reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatuBlumbunganPamekasan, a research that was mainly purposed to investigate is there any correlation between two ways communication model and students’ reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatu, Blumbungan, Pamekasan and how significant is the correlation between two ways communication model and students’ reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatu, Blumbungan, Pamekasan.
This research uses quantitative approach with correlational design with study about numerical data based on the researcher got from questionnaire and test. The population of this research is C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatuBlumbunganPamekasan. Two kinds of data collection procedures were utilized to obtain the data. They were questionnaire and test. Questionnaire was done to obtain the data related to the two ways communication model and test was done to obtain the data related to the students’ reading comprehension. While, to check the validity of the data, the researcher used content validity because questionnaire was made based on the indicators of the two ways communication model itself and the test was made based on the material was taught by the teacher. The reliability of the instruments in this research was used to know the questionnaire and test reliable or not.
From the data analyzed resultof this research, it shows that there is a correlation between two ways communication model and students’ reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatu, Blumbungan, Pamekasan. It is proven after knowing the result of data analysis and comparing it with the table of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment. The result shows that “r” value of this research is 0,624 it is higher than the table of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment where in level significance 5% is 0,304 and in level significance 1% is 0,393 with N = 41. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research is accepted.From the result of data analysis, it shows that two ways communication model has high significant correlation with students reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatu, Blumbungan, Pamekasan. It is proven after knowing the data analysis result and comparing “r” value of this research is 0,624 which is between 0,600-0,800 in the level of enough correlation. It means that two ways communication model has enough significant correlation with students’ reading comprehension of C eighth graders at MTs Al-Ula I SumberBatu, Blumbungan, Pamekasan. So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research is accepted.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to be aware of his or her communication. The English teacher should have good way communication in delivering the material because sometime the teacher must be hearer for students in order to make good communication between the teacher and students. So that, not always the teacher dominated the classroom environment but the students can take their responsibility.
