English handbook is one of book that used in every school especially in social department (IPS). It is consist of economics, georgaphy, sociology, and history. English handbookfor eleventh graders of social department at SMAN 1 Sampang is a book that the researcher had analyzed. It is consist of ten chapter. The researcher focus in reading section in chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3, chapter 5, chapter 6, chapter 8, and chapter 9 based on Helen Basturkmen perspective. It is the study about Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). It consist of three sections. They are: languange, learning and teaching.
The research focus of this research is how the English handbook for eleventh graders of Social Department at SMAN 1 Sampang appropriate with the Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes based on Helen Basturkmen perspective.
In this research, the researcher use qualitative research as an approach ofthis research. The researcher use two instrumens in collecting thedata; observation text and documentation. Observation text is the English handbookitself and the documentation focus in reading materials. Then analyzing the English handbook for eleventh graders of social department at SMAN 1 Sampang based on Ideas and Options in gathering the data. In validity the data, the researcher using triangulation technique toanalyzethedatafromEnglish handbook students with Helen Basturkmen perspective.
The result showed that there are three sections that include in reading material based on Ideas and Options in English for Specific Purposes. They are: language, learning and teaching. In languange section consist of grammatical structure and core vocabulary, patterns of text organizations, speech act, word used for discipline-specific meanings. Learning consist of informations processing and learning through content. Teaching consist of input and output based strategies.
