THE STUDY OF STUDENT’S PROBLEMS ON WRITING ESSAY AT THE FOURTH SEMESTER OF ENGLISH EDUCATION PROGRAM IN IAIN MADURA

Writing is productive language skill. It is skill of a writer to communication information to a reader or group of readers. A writing course which basically aims at improving the students writing skill from writing sentence, paragraphs and essays. Writing essay is more difficult that writing a paragraph. The reason is, in essay writing, the students have to be able to elaborate their ideas as clearly as possible. it means that essay consists of introductory paragraph, a main body which logical development of the theme and its detail and a final paragraph in which the student summaries his main argument and pesses the final judgment on it.
There are two research focus in this study. The first, What are the student’s problems in writing English essay at the fourth semester of English education program in IAIN Madura. The second, How do the student’s solve the problem in writing English essay at the fourth semester of English education program in IAIN Madura.
Based on research focus above, there are two kinds research objective in this study. The first, to identify what are the student’s problems on writing essay at the fourth semester of English education program in IAIN Madura because writing essay is not something easy to do and writing essay is opinion about the subject. The second, to know how do the student’s solve the problem in writing English essay at the fourth semester of English education program in IAIN Madura.
In this research, researcher uses qualitative approach that produces descriptive data and uses interpretation as the form qualitative also give attention to natural data, data in connection of the existence of context. To collect the data, the researcher uses observation, interview to the students about writing essay and documentation teaching learning process of writing 2, especially writing essay.
The result of this researcher, the student problems of writing essay at the fourth semester is thesis statement. Many students confused place to writing general statement and thesis statement but actually thesis statement in middle paragraph to continue the body paragraph. Every students have different problem to writing essay. There are some problem to writing essay such as structure of essay, low ideas and motivation, grammar, limit of vocabularies and spelling. The solve problems of writing essay searching internet to get inspiration or idea to writing essay, reading book to help the students to know style language to writing essay and more easy, asking the teacher do not understand about what the teacher explain, often practice to writing essay to more understand not just theory but must practice to can writing essay and asking to friends more understand writing essay.
