THE EFFECT OF STORIES IN TEN WORDS GAME ON STUDENT’S VOCABULARIES ACHIEVEMENT AT THE EIGHTH GRADE OF SMPN 1 PADEMAWU

Vocabulary is one of important element in English learning. As it has close relation with all skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in English. Without good vocabulary mastery, the students will get some difficulties to improve the each skill of English. The background of study in this research was based on most of students are passive and do not understand to what the teacher talks about because they do not know a lot vocabularies.Some reasons were the teaching learning process was not interesting, and were the teacher still used the old method. So, it make students feel boredto remember many vocabulary and student’s difficultiesto achive the target of teaching learning process. To solve this problem teacher should have creative in creating english classroom, and the using of stories in ten words game can be alternative way as a new technique that will help the students enjoy and easy to memorize new vocabulary.
The objective of the study. The first isto investigate whether students using stories in ten words game have better vocabularies achievement at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu or not. The second is to measure how the significant effect of using stories in ten words game for students vocabularies achievement at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu.
This research applied experimental design with a quantitative approach. It was also designed as quasi-experimental research. The instrument research used test (pre-test and post-test) and documentation. The population of this research is the whole number of the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu and the sample of this research is VIII H as control class and VIII H as experimental class of the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu. Then the data collected were analyzed by using t-test method to find whether students using stories in ten words game have better vocabularies achievement at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu or not and the significant effect of using stories in ten words game for students vocabularies achievement at the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pademawu.
The result of this study showed that t-value (t_(o )) is higher than t-table (t_(t )) either 5% or 1% where (5% = 2,68
