THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CONTEXTUAL TEACHING AND LEARNING (CTL) METHOD IN TEACHING READING COMPREHENSION AT THE ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMA NAZHATUT THULLAB PRAJJAN CAMPLONG SAMPANG

Reading is one way to get information both written and oral like from newspapers, magazines, internet and so forth but they prefer to read the status of social media like Instagram, Facebook, etc. meanwhile they read only cursory and not finished. When they know that reading is very important because by reading can increase knowledge and can distinguish what is right and what is wrong, and it will not be easily fooled. Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method is the concept of teaching and learning where students are given the opportunity to connect between the material being studied with reality so that students can understand it by themselves.
There are three problems in this study. The first, How does the teacher implement of CTL method in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA Nazhatut Thullab Prajjan Camplong Sampang, the second, What are the strengths and the weaknesses of CTL method in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA Nazhatut Thullab Prajjan Camplong Sampang, And the last, How are the students’ responses of CTL method in teaching reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMA Nazhatut Thullab Prajjan Camplong Sampang.
In this research the researcher used the descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method in teaching reading comprehension. In this case, the researcher collects the data from observation, interview and documentation. The researcher knew that how the teacher implement of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method, the strength and weakness of CTL method, and the students gave some response when the teacher used CTL method.
As the result of research, the researcher concluded the research that most of the students at SMA Nazhatut Thullab Prajjan Camplong Sampang gave good responses toward teaching learning process by using CTL method and the students also interested toward teaching learning process by using CTL method because they are easily to understand the subject matter, learning of reading comprehension is more meaningful it means that the students do activity about the material in order to the students understand and it made the students can know new vocabularies. But, sometime the students felt too much reading, the students did not understand about the reading text, and the students were less new English vocabularies. The are two responses in this research, the first is positive respond that the students felt happy when they read the primary text, it made students familiar with English teacher and most students felt enjoy in learning reading comprehension, and the second is negative respond that students felt bored because they were too much reading and students tended to be sleepy in joining the subject matter.
