Vocabulary plays an important role in success or failure in learning a language because language itself consists of vocabulary to build the language. Therefore learning language cannot be separated from learning vocabulary. With a limited vocabulary anyone will also have a limited capability to speak, read, listen, and write. It is true that it might be impossible to learn a language without having a Jot of vocabuJary. VocabuJary is one of the problems confronted in English language learners. Because of the limited vocabulary, the learners cannot communicate to the others clearly. Therefore, it is not easy to create an effective teaching, especially in learning vocabulary for the seventh grade students of Junior High School 6 pamekasan. One of the ways to increase students' vocabulary is by using drilling technique. Drill is a way of learning something by repeating exercise. It makes the students interested in learning vocabulary and it can increase the effective learning by making them easier to memories and comprehend utterances.
There are two problems of the study in this research. The first is whether the students at the seventh grade of Junior High School 6 Pame.kasan who are taught vocabuJary by using drilling technique have higher vocabulary achievement or not. The second is how significant is the students' vocabulary achievement who are taught vocabulary by using drilling technique. This research is conducted to find out the effect and how significant is the effect of using drilling technique to the students' vocabulary achievement at the seventh grade of Junior High School 6 Pamekasan .
In this research, the researcher used quantitative approach with pre experimental design. The population of this research is the Seventh Grade students of Junior High School 6 Pamekasan that consists of four classes namely A, B, C, and D class. Each class has 25 students so the total of population is 100 students. The sample of this research is B class which consists of 25 students.The researcher uses two kinds of research instruments. The primary instrument is test which consists of two kinds of test namely ·pre-test ·and post-test. While the secondary instrument used to collect the data is documentation.
The result shows that the students at the Seventh Grade of Junior High School 6 Pamekasan who are taught vocabulary by using Drilling Technique have higher vocabulary achievement. This is proven by comparing "t'' score of this research with ''t" tabJe. The ''t" score is 10,73. This is higher than ''t" table either in significant level 5% (2,06) or 1% (2,79) with df 25. After the researcher examined the students by teaching vocabulary which used drilling technique and also gave them pre-test and post-test, the researcher know if there are differences between students before and after being taught vocabulary by using drilling technique.It is proven from the score of post-test that is higher than pre-test score.Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to develop the using of drilling technique in teaching vocabulary because it can make the students easier to understand, comprehend, and memorize a lot of vocabularies
