Millions of people have tried their hands at writing poetry. Often, people turn to writing verse at the times of great emotion, insight or need. Some of them write poetry with sad feeling or happy feeling. They write it convey their emotion with language of writing and entertain the readers. It suitable with john utterance, Poetry world is much like those other worlds academic, political, business, etc. Nevertheless, in the long run it is better to be talented than to know the right people and pull the right strings. A poem is one of kind of poetry. Sometimes poet use metaphor to make his/her poem has high quality.
There are two research focuses of this study. The first one is what Type of Metaphor and Denotation Meaning on Oscar Wilde's Five Poems. The second one is what the message of Metaphor and Denotation Meaning on Oscar Wilde's Five Poems
This study is to fmd out what Type of Metaphor and Denotation Meaning on Oscar Wilde's Five Poems. And to know how to get the message of Metaphor and Denotation Meaning on Oscar Wilde's Five Poems
This study will describe through of psychological with descriptive research. Psychological approach is basicaIIy related with three major trends. they are the author, literary work, and the readers, with considering that it is most related with the author and literary work. The writer uses library techniques. The data take from five poems by Oscar Wilde. The writer looking for, read and conclude the data which contained metaphor and denotation meaning on Oscar Wilde's five poems the result showed that 20 metaphors are found which consist of Conceptual metaphor
: 13data the most dominant type in the poems, Mixed metaphor : 6 data ranks second. and Poetic metaphor :2 data appears as the least type.
Based on the result above, this thesis serves about poems as literary work. Hopefully this thesis will give many contributes for students of PBI study program in understanding a literary work as teacher in the future, which this study related with the curriculum in senior high school. The writer hopes for the reader By reading this thesis the reader will understand to comprehend the poem, especially in understanding a metaphor. Then for the next researcher to understand the way to analyze the poem whether in understanding the metaphor and denotation meaning.
