The effect of peer tutoring to the students’ speaking skill at the
eleventh grade in Man Pamekasan is scientific research which focus to the
applying a technique that include of the cooperative learning. Peer tutoring
is an effective instructional model to promote a cooperative or collaborative
learning environment for students to learn. Peer tutoring is learning process
which focus to the students in the case students learn from the other students
who has high competence on each other students which has similar status,
age and the other. It can be applied by grouping or partnership to discuss
what the difficulties of material that have explained by teacher. From peer
tutoring expected students which has lack communication or reluctant to
speak up to the teacher can speak up to their friend as peer tutor that usually
they have more closseness to their friends in sharing ideas and information.
From the explanation above the researcher want to know, Is there any
significant effect of peer tutoring to the students’ speaking skill at the
eleventh grade in Man Pamekasan? In this research, the researcher used
Experimental research design which to establish possible cause and effect
between independent and dependent variables. which is peer tutoring as
independent variable and speaking as dependent variable. In this case, the
researcher take two class as samples into two goups, the first group as
Experimental group with 30 students that given treatment (peer tutoring)
and the second one into the Control group with 30 students didn’t given
treatment. Every groups given test. They are, pre-test and post-test as orally
interview of students with four questions and of each test has 2 minutes to
the students answer the questions .
The researcher gotten the result the mean of pre test on experimental
group is 66 while the mean of control group is 70. While the mean of post
test on experimental group 73, and the mean of post test on control group is
67. The test will accept if the t-value that have gotten is higher than t-table
and the results of reliability of pre-test showed that r11 (0,987) is higher than
rt (0,349) in significance level 5%. So, it showed that pre-test was reliable.
Then, the researcher consulted the result of post-test. The research found the
result that the r11(1,194) is higher than r-table (0,349) in significance level 5%.
It showed that post-test was reliable. The researcher analysis data by using ttest. based on prove the result of the data found that the value of t-test is
higher than t-table either in 5%, or 1 % (5% = 2,00< 2,979) or (1% = 2,65 <
2,979). But, in this case, the researcher used on significance 5 % is 5% =
2,00< 2,979. It mean that Ha (Alternative Hypothesis ) is accepted and theiii
HO (Null Hypothesis) is rejected. So, it can be concluded that students who
taught by used peer tutoring have better achievement on students’ speaking
skill than students who didn’t taught by using peer tutoring.
In this research, the researcher suggest to the teacher to pay attention
to the students understanding in studying English especially in students’
speaking skill
