In literature, there is a method to reward good characters and punish bad
characters which namely poetic justice. This term is not only found in poetry but
also in other literary works, such as drama text, novel, and short story. The poetic
justice is always telling us about the consequences of our decision. Mostly, our
decision is influenced by our emotion. In this case, the emotion mentioned is known
as jealousy which was experienced by the main character as the both objects have
correlation and being important part in The Lady, or the Tiger? Short Story.
In this research, the researcher provides two focuses. The first is the kind of
poetic justice and main character’s jealousy reflected in The Lady, or the Tiger?
Short Story. And the second one is the correlation of poetic justice and main
character’s jealousy reflected in The Lady, or the Tiger? Short Story.
This research is conducted by using historical approach. While kind of this
research uses descriptive analysis since it uses text as the source of data. The data

And the steps in analyzing data based on the theory of Miles and Huberman.
The result of the research reveals that the poetic justice in the short story is
different than others as it was controlled by the king’s rule. The prisoner would
sent into arena and must choose one of the two doors. If he opened the door which
came out the lady, he will marry her as his reward. And if he opened the other door
which came out the tiger, he will die as his punishment. But, this rule was really
different when the prisoner is the main character’s lover. She experienced many
feelings of jealousy such as anger, enmity, fear, expectancy, grief, and envy. And
the jealousy led her interfere to this poetic justice.
By having this research, the researcher hope it would motivate the teachers to
implement the poetic justice to their students, they should reward the students
suitable with their achievement and punish them in appropriate way without judge
or hurt them. And remind the readers that every decision they make, it has
