THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GRAMMAR TRANSLATION METHOD (GTM) IN TEACHING ENGLISH GRAMMAR FOR THE 8TH GRADE AT MTS AL ABROR 2 AMBAT TLANAKAN PAMEKASAN

In learning English, there are four categories or skill in order to master in
learning English namely speaking, writing, listening, and reading. Grammar
describe how we combine, arrange or change the words and part of the word in
order to be known the meaning.
There are two problems in this research. The first one is how does the
teacher descibe Grammar Translation Method (GTM) in teaching English
grammar at the eighth grade at MTsAl Abror 2 Ambat Tlanakan Pamekasan. The
second one is what the students’ responses about The Implementation of
Grammar Translation Method (GTM) in teaching English grammar at the eighth
grade at MTs Al Abror 2 Ambat Tlanakan Pamekasan are.
This research is conducted to know how to descibe Grammar Translation
Method (GTM) in teaching English grammar at the eighth grade at MTs Al Abror
2 Ambat Tlanakan Pamekasan, and the students’ responses about the
implementation of grammar translation method (GTM) in teaching English
grammar at the eighth grade at MTs Al Abror 2 Ambat Tlanakan Pamekasan.
The result of this research showed that there are six principles in grammar
translation method (GTM) in teaching English grammar The first one is to make
the students are able to translate each language in other language the second one it
can help the students understand the material easily.The third one is the students
learn the form of the target language.The fourth of this method can increase the
writing ability. The fifth one is the students would memorize the aspect of
grammar of the target language and teacher makes conclusion about the material
of the discussion and the last the teacher closed the lesson by giving motivation to
the students. The students can be motivated,enthusiasm and easier to understand
the material.
Based on the result of research above, the researcher concludes that
Grammar Translation Method (GTM) is a good method that can be used by the
teacher to teach English grammar because this method can make the
studentseasier and understand the material more.
