THE CORRELATION OF INSTAGRAMER STUDENTS AND THEIR WRITING SKILLS AT THE SECOND SEMESTER OF ENGLISH TEACHING LEARNING PROGRAM OF STAIN PAMEKASAN

Key words: Instagram, the intensity of writing in Instagram, students’ writing
skill.
Instagram is one of social media which is popular and many
students used Instagram to communicate with others. They used
Instagram to write what they think and feel about anything.
The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation
between the intensity of students who write English status in
Instagram and the achievement of student’s English writing skill.
The researcher measured whether higher the intensity of students
who write English status in Instagram, the better they writing skill
in English.
The correlation research design was employed in the study.
The researcher used the correlation statistical test to measure the
degree of relationship between X variable (the intensity of students
who write English status in Instagram) and Y variable (students’
English writing skill). The data of this study was analyzed by
correlation Product Moment. The population of this study was
students who write English status in Instagram. It was 22 students.
So, the researcher used sampling jenuh to determine the sample of
this study. The instruments of this study were questionnaire,
documentation and test. Questionnaire was used to know students
who have Instagram account so that the researcher can follow them
in Instgaram, documentation was used to know students who write
English status in Instagram and test was used to measured students’
English writing skill.
After getting the data, the researcher analyzed the obtain
data by using correlation Product Moment formula. Then, the
researcher got r-table (0,423) is higher than r-value (0,285). It
proved that the null hypothesis of this study was receipted. Based
on the explanation above, it showed that there is no correlation
between the intensity of students who write English status in
Instagram and students’ English writing skill.
From the findings, it concluded that the intensity of students
who write English status in Instagram has no significant role on
students’ English writing skill.
