The Effect of Using Drill Technique on Students’ Speaking Achievement at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan

Speaking is the most important aspect of learning a foreign language. As a tool of communication that used by more than half thousands people in the world, the ability of speak English is very needed especially for the students. In other word, learning English will be very Important for the students. Especially, when the students can speak English fluently and also they can communicate easily in the classroom. In this case, the role of the teacher is very needed in order to apply good method or technique during Teaching and Learning Process (TLP), so that the students can speak English fluently.
There are two problems statements in this research. The first one is, is there effect of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan. The second one, how significant of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan. This research is conducted to know the effect of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan, and also to know significant of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher used quantitative approach, while the researcher used true-experimental design because the population of this research consists of two groups, they are experimental and control group. In this research, the population is the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan that consistsof 306 students. The researcher take two classes as sample, namely XI-IPA 2 as experimental group and XI-IPA 3 as control group. Research instrument which are used are test and documentation. There are two tests, namely pre-test and post-test. Pre-test is given to both group to know the students’ speaking skill before giving treatment. Post test is also given to both group but in this case, there is one group that received treatment. It is experimental group. Otherwise, control group does not receive treatment. While documentation was to obtain the data related to the students’ speaking achievement. To know wether there is or no effect of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan. The researcher was analyze by using t-test formula.
The result of the research showed that there is effect of using drill technique on students’ speaking achievement at the eleventh grade of SMAN 2 Pamekasan with sufficient significant. It is proven from the result of statistical analysis Based on “t test comparison” df 60 showed that T value is higher than t table ether in 5%, or 1% (5%=2,02
