The implementation of English Teaching Learning Process at Large and Small Classes for the Tenth Grade of SMKN 2 Pamekasan

Many people have assumption that the fewer the number of students in the classroom implementation. Small classes are associated with higher achievement at all grade levels, especially if the students assignment carefully controlled. They find that the main benefit of reducing class size, occurs where the number of students in the class is less than. While for large classes, the difficulties in teaching also become more complex than in small classes. The smaller class faced by a teacher will lighten the workload faced by a teacher. Small classes are easily managed, so that the classes can be well controlled.
The phenomenon above makes the researcher wonder to know how the implementation of English teaching learning process at large and small classes. Especially, at the tenth grade of SMKN 2 Pamekasan that also as the subject of this research. Therefore, the research problem is about what the method and strategy used by teacher and how the atmosphere at large and small classes at SMKN 2 Pamekasan. The objective of this research certainly wants to find out and knowing the method and strategy used by teacher and the atmosphere at large and small classes at SMKN 2 Pamekasan.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative research method. the instruments used to collect the data were observation, interview and documentation. The researcher then analyzed the data, in which the researcher explained the data in descriptive explanation. The next step done by the researcher was describing the research result.
The discussion of the research, the method used by teacher at large class is grammar translation method and sometimes using audio lingual method. while for the small class, the teacher used grammar translation method. the strategy used by teacher in both of class, large and small classes are same. These are brainstorming and quescussion strategy. While for the atmosphere at large and small classes is quiet different. The atmosphere at large class is noisy and crowded. It makes the teacher find difficulty in classroom management. The students also have difficulty in learning English. Especially they difficult to catch the material because the atmosphere does not comfort. While the atmosphere in the small class so comfort for the students and the teacher. The students can study comfortly and have good concentration to catch the lesson and the teacher feel easier to manage the class and give her attention to students.
Finally, based on the data, the researcher conclude that the teacher often use the same method at large and small classes. The atmosphere of the large and small classes is different and it is given an impact to the teacher and students in English teaching learning process.
