The Effectiveness of TAI (Team Accelarated Instruction) Technique on Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement at the Eighth Grade of MTs Al-Falah Branta Tinggi Tlanakan Pamekasan

Reading is a skill of English which has a main role in English Classes. It is one of subject provided students in comprehending text. As a matter of fact, in Junior High School there are many reading materials which provides a diversity of information, in order to comprehend the texts, they need a technique approporiate with reading, in order that the students can understand the whole content of text or its meaning. Such as TAI technique. By using this technique the students will be more intereted in reading and they can be more cooperative among the class.
The main problems of this research are do the students who taught using TAI technique have higher achievement on reading comprehension and there is any significant effect of TAI technique on students reading comprehension achievement at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Falah Branta Tinggi Tlanakan Pamekasan. The instruments to collect the data are test and documentation. The technique of data analysis used statistical analysis of “t” test.
The result of this research shows that TAI technique in reading comprehension has significant effect on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Falah Tlanakan Pamekasan. It is proven by the result of data analysis and hypothesis testing. It shows after treatment using TAI technique the students’ score is higher than before giving treatment, the mean value of pre-test is 58, and post-test is 70, 8, the difference is 12,8 points while the result of “t” test found that the value of “t” test is higher than t table. The value of “t” test is 3,64 while the critical value in df 24 on 1% is 2,80, on 5% is 2,06.
Based on the result of the research. It can be concluded that using TAI technique in reading comprehension gives significant effect on students’ reading comprehension. Therefore, the researcher suggests the English teacher at that school to use this technique in teaching English Reading Comprehension because this strategy is useful for the students in increasing their readig comprehension.
