The Effect of Secret Message Game to the Students’ Writing Skill at Eleventh Grade of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan

Writing is one of the important ways to learn English language that involves the students’ ideas to the written form. One of the ways to write the students’ ideas with their ability is by using secret message game. There are two problem statements in this study. The first one is there any effect of the secret message game to the students’ writing skill at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan. The second one is how is the significance of secret message game influence to the students’ writing skill at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan.
This study is to find out the effect of secret message game to the students writing skill and measure the effectiveness of secret message game to the students writing skill. There are two variables in this study; the independent variable is secret message game (variable X) and the dependent variable is the students’ writing skill (variable Y). This study is quantitative research and the design that use in this research is true-experiment design.
The population of this research is all the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan that consist of eight classes. Then the researcher used random sampling to get the samples that is used in this research. The researcher takes two classes as sample based on the same number of the students, where one class as experimental group and one other class as control group. While, research instruments which are used are test and documentation to support a tool or a process in this research. There are two tests that have been done; pre-test and post-test . After gave the pre-test, the researcher gave treatments to experimental group only then gave the post-test. Test was used to test the students’ writing skill and to measure how the significance effect of secret message game to the students’ writing skill of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan. The obtained data from test was analyzed by using t-test formula.
The result showed that there is an effect of secret message game to the students’ writing skill at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Pamekasan and the effect is statistically significant. It prove with t-value is higher than t-table either in 5%, or 1% (5% = 2.00 < 16.65) or (1% = 2.65 < 16.65).
Based on the result above, it is suggested for English teacher to understand the students’ condition in the classroom, so the English teacher can solve the students’ difficulties especially in writing skill. The English teacher should have appropriate activity that is suitable with the material and students’ ability. The activity also can make the students more enjoyable and comfortable, so the students will be spirit to follow writing subject especially in writing skill.
