In English teaching learning program, research classes is important. Because it can help the college students to conduct a research in order to graduate from the college. The college students must write or make a thesis. In thesis, good research problem is important because without good research problem, the researcher cannot conduct the research. Research classes is one of elective subjects which provided by STAIN Pamekasan in order to fulfill the students’ system credit of semester (SKS). This subject is provided for the 6th semester of English teaching learning program. In writing a research, the most important thing is a good research problem because it helps the researcher to conduct a research. In this research the researcher just focuses on research classes where this section to know the students’ responses in writing good research problems in research classes. Some students said that in writing good research problem is difficult. The difficulties faced by the 6th semester students caused by some factors, such as: the students confuse, do not understand well, do not know how to make good research problem, less reading book, to find out the problem or phenomenon, etc.
There are two research focus in this study, such as: what are students’ responses in writing good research problems in research classes of English teaching learning program at STAIN Pamekasan, what factor that make the students’ responses occur in writing good research problems in research classes of TBI department in STAIN Pamekasan academic year 2013/2014. The aim of this study is to know the student’s response in writing good research problem in research classes of TBI department in STAIN Pamekasan academic year 2013/2014, to know what factor that make the students’ responses occur in writing good research problem in research classes of TBI department in STAIN Pamekasan academic year 2013/2014.
The scope of this study is the students’ responses in writing good research problems in research classes, where for the limitation one is the 6th semester students of TBI department in STAIN Pamekasan 2013/2014. This study is designed by qualitative approach, while the kind of this study uses descriptive research since the researcher tries to analyze and describe the answer of research focuses.
The result of this study showed that there are some students’ responses in writing good research problems faced by the 6th semester students in research classes, such as: student’s response (specific), student’s response (choral), student’s response (open ended or student’s initiated), silence, confusion (work oriented and non work oriented), laughter, use native language, nonverbal.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the 6th semester students to listen and read more about how to write good research problems to make easy in conducting a research. It is also suggested for the quantitative and qualitative language research methodology subject lecturer to be more creative in teaching qualitative and quantitative language research methodology.
