The Effect of Video Clip on Student’s Writing Descriptive Text at The Seventh Grade of SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan

In this study the researcher introduces about writing descriptive text using video clip. One of the most difficult aspects of writing class at SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan is getting students motivated and excited about writing. Usually the teacher used text book in teaching writing so that the students bored and difficult to explore their idea in written form. So this research expected to be alternative pathway for English teacher in teaching writing especially using video clip in teaching descriptive text at Junior High School.
In this study there are two problems of study. The first is Do the students taught using video clip have better writing of descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan. The second is How statistically significant is different between students after taught using video clip than those before taught using video clip in writing descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan.
The population of this research is all of students at the seventh grade SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan. While the sample of this research is the seventh grade students of SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan. There are 28 students of the seventh grade at SMP Qurratul Uyun Larangan. In this research uses quantitative approach, while research design that is used in this research is pre-experimental research. The instruments that used in this study are test and documentation. Test is used to measure the writing descriptive text using video clip. While documentation is used to support and complete the data such as lesson plan, students name list, pre-test and post-test scores, photo, etc.
The result of this research is there is significantly difference between students who taught by using video clip than those who are not taught in writing descriptive text because the t-value is higher than t-table in significance alpha 5%. The score of t-value in this research is 4.497 and the score of t-table is 2.05 in level significance 5% with degree of freedom 27 (4.497 > 2.05).
From these results, it is suggested to the English teachers to use an appropriate media in teaching English. In this case using video clip as alternative media the students were be able to catch the ideas of what to describe and arranging the paragraph easily. It is also expected for further researchers to continue this research with the same media but different genre.
