Nowadays, English has been taught at any level of education. In learning English as a foreign language, students are obliged to be able to practice the four language skill that comprise listening, speaking, reading and writing.Reading is the most important thing as a source information and also it is one of language skill in teaching learning process.The teacher expected to have anyways to develop it. One of the interesting and enjoy in teaching reading on students is reading use announcement text.
There are two problems of this research. The first is do students of the tenth grade in SMAI Dempo Timur Pasean Pamekasan that taught by using learning tournament strategy of announcement text than before using learning tournament strategy, have higher achievement of reading comprehension. The second is what is the significant the effect of learning tournament strategy of announcement text on reading comprehension at the tenth grade in SMAI Dempo Timur Pasean Pamekasan.
The research design use quantitative research by using experimental research. This research has two variable, they are variable X is learning tournament strategy, and variable Y is students reading comprehension. The population of this research is all of the students in SMAI Dempo Timur Pasean Pamekasan that consist of 21 students. While the sample of this research consist of 21 students. The instruments that are uses of this research in collecting data are reading test (pre-test and post-test) and documentation. This research was done during sixtime, 15,16, 18, 23, 25 and 30 Maret 2014. The research of data analysis used statistical method. The obtained data was analyzed by using t-test formula.
The result of research showed that students of the tenth grade in SMAI Dempo Timur Pasean Pamekasan taught by using learning tournament strategy of announcement text, have higher achievementof reading comprehension.It is proven from the result of data analysis that show the value of to (3,22) to tt (2,09) in significant level of 5%.
Based on the result above,it is suggested tothe teacher should give more chances to the students to be more active, and let the students to do several practices. For the students keep and increase your achievement in English, especially reading subject.
