Speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning, more than just a way of making conversation. We used spoken language for variety of reasons and daily life. So speaking is used by people to make conversation in daily life for some reason such as, to express our feeling or opinion, to exchange information and so on.
There are four skills tobe mastered for students who studied English. Those are, reading, writing, speaking and listening. But speaking is a major skill in English subject. The teacher have to emphasizing the student tendency to be mastering speaking skill. Stressing student to build their ability specially in speaking skill. So, asa teacher should use a good technique especially in teaching students speaking skill. By suitable technique, the students felt invited to improve their speaking ability. Think pair share technique that have been used by the teacher in MMI MathlabulUlum Islamic boarding school.In this technique, students are not just required to learn material that is presented by the teacher, but here, they can every student has opportunity to talk, making conversation, discuss, and sharing related with the topic going to learn.
There are two focuses of study in this research. The First is how does the teacher implementthinkpairsharetechniquetoincreasestudentsspeakingskill.And thesecond, what are the advantages using this technique. And the third, what are the obstacles using think pair share technique to increase students speaking skill at twelve grade of MMI MathlabulUlum Islamic boarding school.
This research is conducted by researcher to describe the implementation of think pair share technique that used by the teacher in teaching speaking skill and to know the advantages and the obstacles using this technique to increase students speaking skill. The students were interested and comfortable to this technique implementation. Because by this technique the student can improve their ability to speak and make conversation confidance. Develop their thought correctly, get many new vocabularies and develop their own thoughts when sharing time. This technique also solve student difficulties to make discussion in their own group in the class room activities. Make students more focuses on what issues that will be discuss in the class room activities.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative approach and the kind of research is descriptive research. In this research, the researcher uses three techniques. They are observation, interview and documentation. It is to obtain the data needed based on two focuses of study.
Based on the steps implementation, the result of this research shows that think pair share technique was success to be implemented in teaching and learning speaking skill process. The result of research was also proven with the positive studentsactivity that showed by students were very interested to the teaching and learning process through the implementation of think pair share technique. As conclusions, this technique can be continued by the teacher in MMI MathlabulUlumIslamic boarding school to develop students speaking skill.
