The Corelation Using Portfolio Asessment to Student’s Material Comprehension in Sociolinguistic Class of English Teaching Learning Program at STAIN PAMEKASAN

Portfolio is students’ work collection that show all advanced and result of study in one or more particular subject. In Sociolinguistic class, the lecturer asked the students to make portfolio that can stimulate student to be more active. Based on the phenomena the reseacher is interested to conduct research of The Correlation of Using Portfolio Assessment to students’ material comprehension in Sociolinguistic Class of English Teaching Learning Program at STAIN Pamekasan.
Based on the case above, it can be appointed two research problems of this study in which they are: Does portfolio assessment give correlation on student’s material comprehension in Sociolinguistic Class of English Teaching Learning Program at STAIN Pamekasan and how statistically significant the correlation of using portfolio assesment to student’s material comprehension in Sociolinguistic Class of English Teaching Learning Program at STAIN Pamekasan.
The purpose of this research is to find out how statistically significant the correlation of using portfolio assessment to student’s material comprehension in Sociolinguistic Class of English Teaching Learning Program at STAIN Pamekasan. This research use product moment correlation formula. The population of this research is all students TBI, namely 174 students sixth semester of English Teaching Learning Program in year 2014. The reseacher takes 30% of population. So, there are 52 students who became sample in this research. The sample is chosen by using simple random sampling. The research instruments are questionnaire, observation and documentation. After getting the data, the reseacher do coculation by using product moment formula where it get value of rxy = - 0,43. If it compared with r-table, value of rxy is in very low level and it is not significance level, then rxy < level of significance 5% (0,297). Value of rxy is smaller than level of significance or r-table and it means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected.
Based on finding above, it can be conclude that there is no correlation between portfolio assessment and students’ material comprehension. Although the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. It may be caused by some factors, such as the portfolio doesn’t do in a peer, and they do it only to fulfil the lecturer assignment without comprehen it.
