Speaking is one of the four language skills (Writing, Speaking, Reading, Listening) that plays a very important role in teaching of English. However, many students’ have difficulties in speaking. The students ‘get difficulties to interact and communicate each others. They feel shy or afraid to express anything which is in their mind. Therefore, the teacher should have an alternative ways to teach speaking. One ways to develop their communicative skills is invite the students to active and creative in direct practice. To solve the students’ problem to share their ideas and express their communication skills, English Australasia debate parliamentary technique is used to motivate them more confidents to speak up in the real situation.
There is one research problem in this research. The problem is do students, at the first grade of MA AL-AMIEN 1 Prenduan Sumenep taught using English Australasia debate parliamentary technique have higher speaking achievement. This research is to find out whether or not there is any significant difference between the speaking achievement of the first grade of MA AL-AMIEN 1 Prenduan Sumenep before and after being taught by using English Australasia debate parliamentary technique.”
This research used quantitative approach, and the kind of research which the researcher used is quasi experimental research with two group pretest - posttest design.”The population is the first grade students’ of MA AL-AMIEN 1 Prenduan Sumenep. The researcher takes two classes as a sample and the result are class X-A consist of 21 students as experimental group, and class X-B consist of 21 students as control group. In this study, the researcher takes all population as sample. According to Arikunto if the subject of the research is less than 100, it is better all till the research is population research. The data were taken from the oral test. After the students’ were given the pretest, they were given the treatment for three meeting. Then, the data were analyzed using the t-test formula.
The result of this research takes df 40. In df 40, t-value is higher than t-table either in 5%, or 1% (5% = 2,02 < 3, 565) or (1% = 2,71< 3, 565). From the result above, it can be concluded that Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted, and the Ho (Null Hypothesis) is rejected. So, the hypothesis states, “There is any significant effect of using English Australasia debate parliamentary technique on students’ speaking achievement at the first grade of MA AL-AMIEN 1 Prenduan Sumenep, so the significant is = 3, 565.
Finally, based on the findings, the researcher hopes this study can be used by the teacher as one way to introduce the English speaking to the students easily. Besides it also as a consideration for an English teacher to choose English Australasia debate parliamentary as an alternative technique to help the students’ speak up in the real situation and also canmotivate and encourage the students to think more critically, analytically, and constructively in the classroom activities.
