Improving Students’ Writing Ability by Using Mind Movies Game for the 8th Grade Students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Gunung Tangis Palengaan

Writing is very important skill. It is important to be improved particularly in academic life. In junior high school syllabus, the importance of improving writing skill is stated clearly. For instance, in competence standard and basic competence (SKKD) for writing, the syllabus states that students should be able to express the meaning in short functional text and simple essay in daily life context.In short, students have not become accustomed to write a story, especially in narrative text, so teachers need to improve the students’ writing ability by using any kind of methods and media which can improve students’ interest in writing. The researcher tried to make improvement of the students’ writing ability for the 8th grade students at MTs MiftahulUlumGunungTangisPalengaan. The study was carrying out 20 female students.
There is a problem that becomes main study in this research, that is; how the Mind movies game can improve writing ability for the 8th grade students of MTs MiftahulUlumGunungTangisPalengaan. This study is aimed to describe whether Mind movies game can improve writing ability of the 8th grade students of MTs MiftahulUlumGunungTangisPalengaan.
This research use Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach. The output of this study is descriptive statistical analysis. The data collection involved a number of instruments, namely test, observation, and questionnaire. The test conducted at the end of teaching and scoring of writing was adopted from Brown and Bailey, the test is focus on grammar, content, vocabulary, and spelling. The questionnaire was in optional form and given in Indonesian language. The observation used to collect data using observation checklist.
The results of this study showed that the results of the average score of the writing test in the first and the second cycle seemed satisfactory. The average score of students’ post -test in the cycle 1 was 67, 6 and 50% of students could reach the criteria of minimal mastery. In cycle 2 the average score was 75 and 90% of students reached the criteria of minimal mastery. Based on the result, it can conclude that the using of mind movies game could improve the students’ writing ability at the eighth grade of MTs MiftahulUlumGunungTangisPalengaan. Therefore, it is suggested that other teachers having the same problems try to implement the mind movies game to overcome the problem.
