The Influence of Using Comic as Media toward Students‟ Reading Comprehension at Eighth Grade of SMPNegeri 1 Pakong

Reading is one of English skill that has the important role for the students success in learning to get new knowledge. In junior high school, there are many reading materials that have complex information. To comprehend the text, they need reading strategy and technique in order they will get the point of the massage. It also helps the learner to be active and creative, so they will easier to understand the content of the text, such as use comic as media . By using comic as media with full picture and color of the text, students will more interest to read and comprehend the content of the text.
The main problem of this research are do the students taught reading by using comic have better achievement on reading comprehension and how far the significant influence of using comic as media toward students‟ reading comprehension achievement at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Pakong, because comic as media is one of reading technique that can help the learner easier to comprehend the text
In this research, the researcher uses quantitative research approach exactly pre-Experimental research design, and the population of this research is all of eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Pakong and also as the sample of this research is A class. The instruments used in collecting data are test and documentation. The technique of data analysis used in statistical analysis exactly “t” test analysis.
The result of this research showed that using comic as media in reading comprehension has significant influence on reading comprehension at VIII Grade of SMPN 1 Pakong. It is proven from the result of the data analysis and hypotheses test that showed after treatment using comic as media the students‟ score is higher than before treatment. The mean value of pre-test is 68,000 and post-test is 82,500. Whereas from the result of “t” test analysis found that the value of “t” test is higher than t table in significance alpha 5%. The value of “t” test in this research is 2,380824 while the score of the t table 2,09 in level significance 5% with degree of freedom 19 (2,380824 > 2.09).
Based on the result of this research above can be concluded that using comic as media in learning reading comprehension give significant influence on students‟ reading comprehension. So, the researcher suggests the teacher to use comic as media in teach English reading comprehension because this technique is useful for the students to improve their reading comprehension.
