Learning English has not been different from learning other “difficult” field of study, such as biology, physics, etc. Because English is a lesson to learn a foreign language other than the language we use every day. Therefore, there must be encouragement that comes from within us (student) the spirit of a student to learn English. Encouragement that comes from within to do it called a motive. In the view of Mc. Donald, motivation is the energy change in a person who is marked by the emergence of “feeling” and preceded by a response to any destination. It showed that motivation have three important elements, which are motivation that initiated the change of energy on each and every individual human being, motivation is characterized by the emergence of someone feeling affection, and motivation will be stimulated because of the goal. With motivation, the student can develop activities and initiatives, can help direct and maintain persistence in learning activities. In this regard please note that the manner and type of motivation is to various such as give numbers, prizes, praise, and others. At SMAN I Galis, one way to generate interest and motivation to study in English subject is to have an English Native Speaker to teach English. So, it is expected by provided the English native speaker more students can be more enthusiastic in English learning.
There are two research problems in this research. The first one is whether English Native Speaker Teacher influences the students’ motivation in learning English. The second one is how significant does English Native Speaker Teacher influence the student’s motivation in learning English. This research conducted to find out the influence and how significant of English Native Speaker Teacher’s toward the students’ motivation in learning English.
In this research, the researcher uses quantitative approach because the researcher wants to present the data in term of number. The kind of this researcher that use with researcher is correlation. The data were collected by doing questionnaire, documentation and interview. The data is taken from the students, English native speaker teacher and the English teacher at SMAN I Galis Pamekasan.
As the result of the study, the researcher finds out that there is no influence of English native speaker teacher toward students’ motivation in studying English at SMAN I Galis Pamekasan. It is proven after comparing “r” value of this research with the table of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment. The “r” value is 0,164, it is less than the value of coefficient value of correlation “r” product moment weather in level significant 5% with N = 34, the value of “r” product moment is 0,339.
Based on the result above, it is suggested the teacher to motivate the students’ ability to create the situation that make the students interested in learning English. Beside that the teacher should be a good motivator to support the students’ habit in understanding of English lesson. And the teacher should be more creative in studying English, so the students are more interested. For the students should be more motivate their self to studying English. Beside that the student should be more active and creative in studying English. And the student should participate and pay attention during the English teaching learning process.
