The Analysis of Translation Procedures of Indonesian into English Song: Vinay and Darbelnet’s Theory

Translation is process of transfer meaning, idea, or message from one
language into another language. Song lyric is kinds of literary work, namely
poetry. Song lyric is also someone’s experienced that seen, heard, or experienced
that written in song lyric. In translating the song lyric a translator should be focus
on rhyme and rythme. Beside that a translator should choose a suitable word and
focus on the message that will be transfer to the reader or hearer. A translator also
should be careful and pay attention in translating it. The research focuses are the
translation procedures applied in the translation of Just Missing You and
Incredible Love Song using Vinay and Darbelnet’s theory. And the meaning of
lyric translation based on the result of translation procedures that found in Just
Missing You and Incredible Love song lyric by Emma Heesters.
This research is used descriptive content analysis and qualitative method
in library research. The researcher uses this because it is accordance with the
research topic of this research, translating a literary work. How the translator
translate the song lyrics. In colleting the data the researcher used documentation.
To check the validity of data the researcher used source triangulation.
The result of this research found 27 data from both song lyrics. From the
data, found five types of translation procedures that used by the translator in
translating the song lyrics. They are borrowing, literal translation, transposition,
modulation, and adaptation. The most translation procedures is used by translator
in translating the song lyrics is adaptation with the occurrence of 9, the second one
is literal with the occurrence of 7 data, thirdly transposition with the occurrence
of 5 data, the next one is modulation with the occurrence of 5 data. The last one is
borrowing with the occurrence 1 data. There are five types of meaning found
based on the result of translation procedures they are lexical meaning,
grammatical meaning, contextual and situational meaning, socio cultural meaning,
and implicit meaning. The most meaning that found is grammatical meaning with
10 data, the second one is implicit meaning with 9 data, thirdly is lexical meaning
with 6 data, and contextual and situational meaning and socio cultural meaning
with one datum. It is conclude that the most used translation procedures by the
translator in translating the song lyrics is adaptation, literal, transposition,
modulation and the last one is borrowing.
