The Analysis of Students Problem in Translating Narrative Text at Tenth Grade Student of State Islamic Senior High School 1 Pamekasan

English is one of international language in this world. Learning
English as foreign language is different with learning first language. That
is why students have to learn it in the school to master it like the first
language. Because it is a new language for the students, they face some
problem when they learn English, especially in translating a text. There are
problem that faced by some of people in the process of translation such as,
grammatical structure, lack of vocabulary, and do not know the English.
There are two main problem in this research. The first, the researcher
wants to know about the problems faced by the students in translating
narrative text, and the second, the researcher wants to know the factors
cause the students problem in translating narrative text. This research is
qualitative descriptive. The data are taken from observation, interview and
documentation. The source of this research in this research is the tenth
grade students of MAN 1 Pamekasan. In checking the validity of data, the
researcher used technical triangulation.
Based on the result of observation, interview and documentation
conducted in this research, the problem faced by the students are grammar,
vocabulary, and punctuation and layout. In addition the factors cause the
student problem in translating are, the students are difficult to understand
the meaning of word that not find in dictionary, the student minimum in
vocabulary, difficult to arrange the text in target language, difficult to
translate the long and complex sentence. It can be concluded that every
student has different problem in translating, and has different factors cause
the student in translating narrative text.
