“The Use of English Video in Teaching Speaking at 8th Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Pamekasan"

Speaking is the ability to say words in order to express intentions, ideas,
thoughts, and feelings that are arranged and developed according to the needs of
the listener so that what is conveyed can be understood. Teaching and learning to
speak is an important part of any language education class, not only spoken
language offers the ability to learn as the primary communicative medium in the
classroom, but is also an important component of the content of the syllabus and
learning outcomes. Based on the background above, the research problem in this
study are, the First, how does the teacher use English video in teaching speaking
at 8th grade of SMP Negeri 4 Pamekasan? The Second, what are the advantages
and disadvantages of using English video in teaching speaking at 8th grade of
SMP Negeri 4 Pamekasan? The Third, how do students respond to learning
speaking using English video in teaching speaking at 8th grade of SMP Negeri 4
Pamekasan. The objectives are to find out how it is implemented, to find out the
advantages and disadvantages, to find out the students' response to learning
English in the aspect of speaking using video media.
In this study using a qualitative approach and the type is descriptive.
Which is the result of the description in this thesis obtained through data that
researchers can get from the results of observation and go directly to the field
during teaching and learning activities using video media and interviews directly
to data sources, besides that there are some documentation as data collection.
From the results of the research that researcher can get about the use of
English videos in teaching speaking skills in the 8th grade of SMP Negeri 4
Pamekasan, first before playing the video the teacher first explains the material to
be conveyed and at the end of the lesson the teacher will make conclusions and
questions. Secondly, in the implementation of English videos in English subjects
in the aspect of speaking skills, there are supporting factors that can attract
students' attention, which makes them focus and quickly absorb the lesson so that
it raises students' interest in learning. The inhibiting factor is that the available
facilities have shortcomings that make the sound not too clear for students sitting
in the back row and also limited reach such as having to go to the media room.
The third, the research focus is student response to the use of video media in
teaching English (speaking) is very good, despite the shortcomings in its
application does not make students lose focus so that the learning process
continues to run smoothly
