,Student’s techniques in learning reading subject at the third Semester of English Teaching Learning Program at IAIN Madura

Reading is reasoning. Reading is an activity to search information through
written symbols. Reading activity do to acquire and process information into a
knowledge. Reading needs comprehension to understand the meaning of the text.
To understanding a text, the reader has to have a technique. Technique is a way of
doing something.Reading is a phenomena that happen in bilingual or multilingual
societies like English lesson including in the process of learning in Reading
subject at third semester of English department at IAIN Madura. The college
students used some of tehniques during learning process to help in undestanding
the text.
There are three research focus in this study. The first one is describing the
students techniques in learningreading subject at the third semester in the English
Department of IAIN Madura. The second one is what are the techniques being
used for students in learning reading subject at the third semester in the English
Department of IAIN Madura. The third is how does the students used their
technique in learning reading subject.
In this research, the researcher uses qualitative as an approach of this
research. The researcher uses three instruments in collecting the data; observation,
interview, and documentation. For analyzing the data, the researcher uses data
condensation, data display, and verifying conclusion. Then the researcher uses
triangulation of data source in checking the validity of data.
The result of this research that found by the researcher are: the first, all of
students in TBI B class have various description towards the use of technique in
reading class at the third semester of English department at IAIN Madura. The
second, there are four kinds of technique that use in reading, namely previewing
with 10 data, predicting with 6 data, scanning with 7 data, and skimming with 4
data. The last or the third, there are two types of learning styles that readers use,
namely visual learning style with 26 data, auditory with 1 data, and kinesthetic
with 1 data.
Based on the result above, it is suggested for the students by understanding
the kinds of technique in reading used by readers, the students can develop the
technique in read a text in order to easy to get idea of the text. It is suggested for
English lecturer. This research is expeted to give the English lecturers an insight
about kinds of technique that used by learners and the description of the students
when English lecturers used technique reading.
