Conjunction is a word or more to connect between two words, clauses, or sentences and to show the relation between them.Essay is usually a short piece of writing in a particular subject and it is often written from a writer’s personal point of view as a formal writing.Biro PengembanganBahasaAsingInggris(BPBA English)Lubangsa Putra AnnuqayahGuluk-GulukSumenep has published a newspaper named Prestigious, one of the section is essay. Then, some problem appears from this section that sometimes the writers do not pay attention onthe grammatical rules in writing an essay especially in part of speech such as conjunction.
Based on the description above, the focus of this study are What are conjunction errors on essay of Prestigious weekly newspaper 2016-2017 period at Biro Pengembangan Bahasa Asing Inggris (BPBA English)Lubangsa Putra Annuqayah Guluk-Guluk Sumenep and What are the factors causingthe writers’ errors in using conjunction on the essayof Prestigious weekly newspaper 2016-2017 period at Biro Pengembangan Bahasa Asing Inggris (BPBA English)Lubangsa Putra Annuqayah Guluk-Guluk Sumenep.
This research uses qualitative research with kind of descriptive. The data collection procedures are obtained trough interview and documentation. The informants are the editor of Prestigiousnewspaper and also the writers of essay on prestigious weeklynewspaper. While to check the validity of data is done by triangulation based on the data source.
The result of this research showed many conjunction errors on essay of Prestigious weekly newspaper 2016-2017 period at Biro PengembanganBahasaAsingInggris(BPBA English)Lubangsa Putra AnnuqayahGuluk-GulukSumenep especially error in using conjunction and, nor, but, or, and yet. While the factors that cause the writers’ error in using conjunction are carelessness, first language interference, translation, and boredom.
Based on the result of the research above can be concluded that thewriters of essay onPrestigious weekly newspaper still made conjunction error. Therefore, the editor ofPrestigious weekly newspaper should be more careful in correcting the sections of Prestigious newspaper especially the essay because essay is formal writing.
